Environment Canada issued an alert Tuesday for Highway 3, Kootenay Pass to Paulson Summit.
Environment Canada said hazardous winter conditions are expected beginning today and into Tuesday evening with total snowfall accumulations of 25 cm.
“A frontal system moving across the BC Interior will give heavy snow to southern highway passes,” Environment Canada said.
“Light snow this morning will intensify later in the today.
“The snow will abate Wednesday morning as the system exits the region.” Environment Canada said that Highway 3 is expecting the greatest accumulation is forecast to be over Kootenay Pass where snow accumulations are likely to exceed 25 cm.
Environment Canada said near the Paulson Summit, up to 15 cm of snow is expected.
Drivers can expect difficult road conditions due to heavy snow and poor visibility while driving.
Environment Canada suggests the public to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” Environment Canada said.
“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
