Gold Fever Follies -- love and laughter

The Follies are back!  And for those who haven’t yet seen this year’s version of Rossland’s favourite family-friendly summer live entertainment, there is only one more month to catch this production at the Miners Union Hall.

Rossland’s Marnie Jacobsen wrote the play and wove a near-tragic misunderstanding into the love story.  Names have a major role, as they do in everyone’s lives – who among us has always loved their name, or was never teased or even bullied about it?  As for that old Shakespearean line about a rose by any other name – in this play it might be more appropriate to ask about a skunk by any other name!

There’s a love story, singing and dancing, laughs, and characters based on people from Rossland’s history, such as the well-known Mrs. Allan of the numerous – but only one at a time – husbands; in this story, she seems on the verge of divorcing her hapless but useful current spouse. Ross Thompson appears, with his thwarted desire to name this place “Thompson,” and another little love story that hinges on bathing and changing clothes more than once a year … like all Gold Fever Follies productions, this year’s version is just what the doctor ordered.

Speaking of  doctors and medical issues that we’d all rather avoid, the Follies crew is seating audience members in “family bubbles” somewhat separated from each other, and recommending (but not requiring) masks.
