Every year, the Stanley Humphries Grad class/parents/volunteers go out of their way to raise awareness, food and funds for the Community Harvest Food Bank, usually with Spooks on Zukes event – a local annual Halloween staple. Sadly, ongoing pandemic restrictions and compliance have ruled that out this year.

Nothing daunted, the Grads wracked their brains to find a new, more terrifying way to show their abiding commitment to the well-being of their beloved community :  the soon-to-be-dreaded Nightmare on 7th Avenue.

WHAT: Only those brave enough should drive through the horrifying Zombie Apocalypse that has suddenly materialized down on 7th Avenue … and  the only way you can survive the zombie attack is to have non-perishables or a monetary donation for our local food bank.

WHEN: the drive by is next Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Or check out our Facebook link to  “Nightmare on 7th”

WHERE: “Drive along 7 Avenue from Castlegar Primary, past SHSS and Twin Rivers, towards KCLC. Food Bank donations (non-perishable and/or money) will be accepted at the entrance. We are so lucky to have Safe Start Safety, who has donated their flagging services to this year’s Grads (see attached Thank You poster),” said Andraya Hughes, Grad teacher/sponsor. “They will be directing traffic along 7 Avenue (from 8 Street towards 6 Street: Castlegar Primary -> SHSS -> Twin Rivers -> KCLC. As well, Fortis donated high-vis vests and safety supplies for all of our volunteers. We feel so spoiled! This community is always so incredible to our SHSS grads! Every single year businesses and companies give and give and give…this is the least we can do to give back to the community and say thanks.”

ADDITIONAL INFO: The Food Bank drive by will follow all COVID-19 guidelines:

– Actors will be grouped according to their school cohorts (Last names: A – L on one side of the road; M – Z on the other side of the road (more than six feet apart).
– Actors will be behind safety pylons and taped off areas
-All actors and volunteers will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing

There will be absolutely NO foot traffic, vehicles only. Anyone who is walking down 7th Avenue during this time will be redirected. This is to keep all of the Grads safe and to make sure the public stays safe as well.
Burns outs or smoke shows will not be tolerated (also to keep Grads safe) and all cars will be asked NOT to stop along the route.

Have a safe and scary Halloween!
