Today will see Castlegar’s first all-access H1N1 vaccination clinic, and Interior Health community manager for prevention services for Kootenay Boundary Cheryl Yates said she expects a steady crowd.

The clinic, slated for 12:30 to 7 p.m. at the Complex, will run concurrent to another in Grand Forks, with Nakusp getting needled tomorrow, Salmo on Friday and Nelson on Saturday.

Yates said attendance at clinics to date has been sporadic.

“In communities like Trail, we’re busier every week,” she said, “whereas in Nelson, we’re seeing far fewer people than I would expect for a population base of that size.”
Yates said she thinks much of attendance fluctuation is due to public confusion over who is and is not eligible for the vaccine – a problem now solved by universal access.

“Now everyone is eligible to come forward and get the vaccine – we have an ample supply …across the Kootenay Boundary,” she said. “We have all this week and next week booked for clinics, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it (demand) dropped off after that.”

She said at least one more clinic is scheduled for Castlegar, on Dec. 1 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Castlegar Health Centre.
