As a follow-up to the successful Ignite Kootenay Women’s Conference held this past March, Rebecca Voros is thrilled to be bringing two new events to Castlegar.

Wednesday, May 29, Castle Theatre will host An Evening with Marilyn James. Marilyn is the Sinixt matriarch, and she opened the conference with a beautiful blessing.  Her short, but powerful presentation was so well received that she is coming back to the theatre for her own night!  With her delightful and unique brand of humor, Marilyn will offer a cross-cultural perspective based on Sinixt cultural practices and laws.  Not just for women, this event is sure to entertain and inspire everyone present, so come out and enjoy an evening of storytelling, anecdotes and exploring paths to healing mind, body and spirit. Tickets are $10 at the door. Marilyn’s book, Not Extinct: Keeping the Sinixt Way, will be also be available for $30. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the presentation starts at 7.

Saturday, June 22, Her HQ in downtown Castlegar will host the Ignite Kootenay Girls’ Day.  This fun-filled, inspiring day is all about empowering girls through movement, art, and mindset.

Incredible local women will help the girls recognize their inner beauty, confidence and strength, while teaching them simple and fun methods to access their full potential. Richele McEwan is the founder and creative director of Arrow Dance Studio. Richele is passionate about about getting youth active and having fun. She will get the girls movin’ and groovin’, while teaching them some simple ways to keep healthy and active. Ella Raganbold, from Pink Opal Dreams is passionate about empowering women and girls. Combining the power of biodegradable glitter with fun meditation and visualization techniques, Ella will assist in sparking the beauty and dreams that live inside each girl.  Shannon Silvermoon is a local artist, face painter, costume designer, and author. She will help empower the girls through the expression of art. Each girl will go home with her own painting that anchors and connects her to her personal vision. Amy Harborne recently opened Her HQ, next to trackside Bistro in downtown Castlegar. In addition to hosting the day, Amy will be leading the girls through a short journaling exercise to help them understand the power and value of writing their thoughts down on paper. Personal reflections, gratitude, and what they are looking forward to in the summer will be topics for journaling.

Empowering girls at a young age is vital to them growing into confident, healthy women. In addition to learning how to become her best self, each girl will go home with tools to help her keep focused on reaching her goals and dreams.

This event is for girls ages 9-12, and it will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  The investment is $40, which includes lunch, a journal, art projects, and so much more.  For further information, or to register your girl for this incredible day, email ignitekootenaywomen@gmail.com, or check out the Ignite – Kootenay Women’s Conference Facebook page.
