Man awaits bail hearing following bear spray attack in Nelson

Nelson Police said the two victims that were bear sprayed received treatment for their injuries at scene.

Nelson Police said in a media release Wednesday that a man is awaiting a bail hearing after two people were allegedly sprayed with bear repellant during the afternoon in the 800 block of Vernon Street.

Nelson Police received a complaint at approximately 1:34 p.m. that a man had sprayed two people on Vernon Street.

“Upon police arrival, attending members were able to locate the suspect male a few blocks away and took him into custody,” Nelson Police said.

“The two victims that were bear sprayed received treatment for their injuries at scene.”

The attending officers took the suspect into custody before transporting the man to Nelson Police Department to await a pending bail hearing.

Nelson Police said the people involved in this matter are known to each other and police do not believe there is further risk to the greater public.
