A procession has formed for late Nelson Police Department Const. Robert (Wade) Tittemore, 43, on his final journey home from Kelowna General Hospital to Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson.
Today (Jan. 12), at least five police departments, 11 fire departments, seven Paramedic offices, six Search-and-Rescue organizations, KERPA and countless civilians will be joining the procession for Tittemore, 43, who was killed Monday in a fatal avalanche near Kaslo.
Nelson's Const. Mathieu Nolet, 28, was seriously injured in the avalanche and remains in critical condition in the ICU.
The procession started out of Kelowna at roughly 10:30 a.m., and is expected to last about five-and-a-half hours.
While timing is necessary fluid, given x-factors such as road conditions and procession attendance, authorities anticipate the procession reaching Castlegar at roughly 2:30 p.m. (via Hwy 3 a) and Nelson (along the corridor of Hwys 3a and 6 by Lakeview Crescent) at roughly 3:30 p.m. (again, these times are subject to change).
Tittemore's family is expected to join the procession near Taghum Shell for the final leg of the journey of a fallen Kootenay officer.
In a press release, the Nelson officials said, "The City of Nelson, Mayor and Council and the Nelson Police Department appreciate the outpouring of condolences, support and assistance. The public is invited to email their condolences for Constable Tittemore’s family at email@example.com."
