Morning commuters were slowed today after an MVA on Columbia Avenue saw two vehicles destroyed and one person taken to hospital, according to Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.

Lattanzio said they got the call at 7:26 a.m. and were the first emergency responders to arrive on scene (RCMP and BCAS also attended) near the 2700 Block of Columbia Drive.

“It was a rear-ender that had blocked traffic in both directions,” he said, adding crews secured the scene quickly and coordinated single-lane-alternating traffic, with interruptions only to get ambulances in and out.

Traffic was back to normal in roughly 30 minutes.

He said both vehicles had been heading southbound toward Trail when the crash happened, with one occupant in each vehicle.

“Both vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed,” he said, adding one person was sent to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the MVA.
