The following is a press release issued by the Bright On Castlegar Committee

On Jan. 24, 2010, Castlegar residents will be given the opportunity of a lifetime – the chance to celebrate the Olympic spirit as the Olympic flame makes it way through Castlegar for the first time.

The City of Castlegar “Bright on Castlegar” committee, comprised of the Recreation Department, Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce, Spirit of BC Committee, Columbia Basin Trust, Mayor Lawrence Chernoff and members of council, would like to take this opportunity to create a fun-packed celebration event for residents, and we want to invite you to take part.

The committee is planning a series of events.

“It is all about celebrating community spirit. Festivities kick off on the evening of Jan. 23, with the City of Castlegar annual toboggan party,” Chernoff said. “The celebration continues the next morning with the much-anticipated arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay, followed by indoor and outdoor activities at the Castlegar Recreation Centre (the Complex).”

“One of the events taking place will be a cultural food fair that allows people a sample of food from around the world supplied by vendors in our own area – it’s an opportunity to celebrate our rich cultural diversity in Castlegar,” said Audrey Maxwell Polovnikoff, chair of the cultural food fair committee.

If you or your organization is interested in participating in this cultural food fair, or you would like further information, please contact Polovnikoff at 250-365-3386 ext 4105.
