On Sept. 3,  2020 just after 6 a.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a report that a woman had secured herself to a gate at the Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) project off Airport Road in Kamloops.

TMX security staff had reportedly attempted to interact with the demonstrator prior to police arrival, however she refused to unchain herself from the gate.

On June 1, 2018, the BC Supreme Court issued an injunction against demonstrators who interfere with the TMX project.

Front line Kamloops RCMP officers attended the site and verbally engaged with the demonstrator, who was read the BC Supreme Court injunction. She was eventually arrested for allegedly being in civil contempt of the Court Order issued by Justice Affleck.

The 32-year-old woman is now set to appear in BC Supreme Court in Vancouver on October 5, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.

Demonstrators have the right to peaceful, lawful and safe protest and companies have a lawful right to complete their mandated work. The RCMP is working hard to protect both of these rights and ensure all parties and public are kept safe.
