The Castlegar police blotter for the past week shows 65 calls for service, most of which, according to RCMP Cpl. Deb Postnikoff, were routine in nature, with the following exceptions:

On Aug. 14 at 3:17 p.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle incident involving a motorcyclist who was lying on the side of the road in the 900 Block of Waterloo Road, Ootischenia. A 47-yearold local man was treated for minor injuries suffered when he lost control of his motorcycle and slid off the road. He was subsequently arrested and charged for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

On Aug. 15 at roughly 1:10 a.m., police responded to the 200 block of Columbia Avenue to a large group of individuals consuming liquor outside of the Element Nite Club. Police located and seized open liquor and beer on scene. Individuals are reminded that they could face a $115 fine contrary to Section 40(1) of the Liquor Control and Licensing Act, if found consuming liquor in a public place.

Also on Aug. 15, at 3:38 a.m., police responded to the Element Nite Club regarding a 40-year-old intoxicated patron who was causing a disturbance. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place, lodged in police cells and released in the morning when he became sober. There were no charges laid in this instance.

Police are asking for he public’s help after an incident on Aug. 18, when police responded to a break-and-enter of a residence located in the 2600 block of 6th Avenue. Culprits used a ladder that was in the backyard to gain entry. RCMP Forensic Identification Services were called to the scene and the investigation continues. Should the public have any information regarding suspicious persons or activity seen in the area, please contact the detachment at 250-365-7721.

Police would also like to remind the community to ensure their homes are equipped with good locks , and if planning any holidays to have a reliable person conduct frequent visits to their home and to ensure all newspapers/mail are collected on a daily basis. Secure all doors and windows when your house is not occupied. Police also encourage homeowners to ensure their property has adequate lighting in efforts to help deter potential criminal activity. Any suspicious vehicles/persons should be reported to the RCMP immediately.
