This year, the Robson VFD will be hosting their Second Annual Rooftop Campout to raise critical funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada on Oct. 2 – 3 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. atop Johnnys Grocery & Gas. Many prizes will be available and proceeds from gas will be donated to the cause that day as well!

For more than 65 years, Fire Fighters have been supporting MD Canada and Canadians impacted by neuromuscular disorders and it is a longstanding tradition that both Fire Fighters and MD Canada are extremely proud of. To show their support for people with neuromuscular disorders, Robson Fire Fighters are organizing the Rooftop Campout to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move”. A Rooftop Campout is a fundraising event where local Fire Fighters gain pledges for a 24 hour stay on a local rooftop.

Since 1954, Canadian Fire Fighters have been helping MD Canada fight the battle against Muscular Dystrophy—a group of over 100 types of neuromuscular disorders characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles. Over time, many people with neuromuscular disorders are unable to walk, speak, or ultimately breathe. Some disorders are life-threatening and presently, there is no cure.

The money raised by Robson Fire Fighters will be donated to MD Canada to support their mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure.  “Our MD Canada annual fundraising initiatives have become a big part of the traditions at Robson Fire and I couldn’t be more proud of our community and RVFD members for continually improving annual totals that are truly off the charts for a community of our size.” -Chief Grant.

“The Muscular Dystrophy cause is very near and dear to us firefighters right across Canada and our crew at Robson Fire is no different. We will be at Johnnys for 24 hours, accepting donations through the day and camped out on the roof over night. This event is perfect because it allows us to support a great cause while following all COVID health and safety protocols. Come on down to see us, fill up your gas tank and if you can spare some money to add to the boot, even better. If you can’t make it to see us in person but would still like to donate then you can go to MdRobson.com to check out our team fundraising page.” -Rebecca Brohman – Muscular Dystrophy Canada Chair and Captain with RVFD.

It takes a Fire Fighter 56 muscles to put on a boot; it takes YOU to help fill it. By dropping your extra change into the boot, you are helping make muscles move in your community – support your local Fire Fighters in the battle against Muscular Dystrophy!
