Students are flying high as Selkirk College enters its third year as a member of Aeroplan’s Charitable Pooling Program.

The program, designed to allow charities to raise miles for fundraising purposes, will play a key role during the live auction at this year’s Selkirk College Gala—an event that is held annually to raise money and support students through awards, projects and field trips.   Every Aeroplan Mile that is donated goes towards becoming a gift for the live auction. This year’s goal is to collect 70,000 miles and auction a “trip”. The program allows one month for collection of the miles. Anyone can donate, so long as it is before the deadline of Sept. 25.   “We have had the opportunity to participate in this program for the past two years,” explains Selkirk College’s Donor Development Coordinator Pat Henman. “During that time, the Aeroplan Charitable Pooling Program has generated over $1,700 towards the success of our students. We are happy to take advantage of this opportunity again.”   Selkirk College will be celebrating the Gala’s 21st Anniversary this year.   The signature event takes place on Nov. 27.   Last year, over $12,000 from the live and silent auction proceeds went to the Health and Human Services Programand the programs that hosted the event which included; the Professional Cook, Resort and Hotel Management, Contemporary Music and Technology and Aviation programs. This year, proceeds from the live auction will go to the Studio 80 renovation project in support of Contemporary Music and Technology students.   For more information and to donate your Aeroplan Miles to Selkirk College, please email events@selkirk.ca or call 250-505-1324.
