On March 15, 2023, Grand Forks RCMP were made aware of a theft from a motor vehicle that occurred on March 4, 2023 at the Paulson Cross Country ski area off Highway 3.
Police said that while the driver secured their vehicle, someone came by, broke into the vehicle and stole a purse including credit cards.
After contacting the bank, RCMP said the person discovered that the cards had been used at various locations in Christina Lake and Grand Forks.
Officers are investigating the matter in hopes of identifying a suspect or suspects.
"We encourage the public to take steps to deter thefts by removing or hiding valuables, and deter thieves from accessing and stealing their vehicles by locking doors, parking in well-lit areas, and not leaving spare keys inside," stated Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler.
"When traveling to an outdoor recreation area where you will be away from your vehicle, bring with you only what you need, such as drivers license and bank/credit card, and carry on you."
Nicer weather brings back police check stops
On Saturday afternoon, March 18, 2023, officers set up a random check stop on 72nd Avenue and 7th Street in Grand Forks, BC.
Police said that more than 100 vehicles were checked which resulted in one driver being caught while driving while prohibited who will now have a court date for this matter later this spring.
One vehicle was found with no insurance and two drivers were found to be driving that did not have driver’s license. Various warnings were given for drivers who failed to display their N or L signs or failed to produce their drivers license.
Traffic safety remains a priority for the Grand Forks RCMP ensuring that only properly licensed and sober drivers are on the road and that only safe and insured vehicles are on the road.
