U of C basketball player dies in boating accident on Moyie Lake

Police said the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was called in and located the missing male deceased in the water.

Cranbrook RCMP report a man has died after a tragic boating accident on Moyie Lake near Cranbrook Tuesday.

In a media release, RCMP said at approximately 9 a.m. on April 23rd, RCMP were called to an overturned boat on Moyie Lake, located 25 kilometers south of Cranbrook. 

"One of the occupants had made it to shore but a second male was missing," the RCMP media release said. "Extensive patrols were made along the shoreline by Cranbrook RCMP and Search and Rescue. The Police Dog Service was able to locate items which belonged to the missing male. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone) was also utilized in the search."

Police said the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was called in and located the missing male deceased in the water.

Our thoughts are with the family of the young male who died. It’s an unfortunate reminder of how nature can change in an instant and result in tragic consequences, said Cst Katie Forgeron.

Cranbrook RCMP, along with the BC Coroner’s service are continuing to investigate. 

Media reports said the deceased man was Andrew Milner, a member of the University of Calgary Dinos Men's Basketball team.
