Police ask for help finding bicycle used in connection with armed robbery

The Nelson Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance with locating the bicycle used in a recent mid-day armed robbery at the Kootenay Currency Exchange.

Police say the bicycle was used by the suspect to arrive at, and depart from, the scene, and that it was stolen prior to the robbery, which occured on April 11 at about 1:15  p.m. The suspect brandished a weapon, which he fired once, but no one was injured.

Police say the bicycle is unique and described as a Kona (brand) “Jake the Snake” (model) cyclocross or road-style bike. The bike is primarily green in colour with a white stripe on the down-tube area. The bike has drop-racing style handlebars as well, and could be described as newer and higher end in terms of quality and condition.

“Should members of the public feel that they have located this bicycle please contact the Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919,” read a press release issued April 17. “Do no attempt to pursue or approach any individuals associated to this bicycle.”

All information regarding this event can be forwarded to NPD at 250-354-5179, the nearest RCMP detachment, or Crimestoppers.
