Hwy 22 crash between SUV and motorcycle sends two to hospital
On July 5, just before 12 p.m., Castlegar RCMP received a report there had been a collision on Hwy 22 in the China Creek area between the communities of Castlegar and Trail, according to Castlegar RCMP NC/oic Sgt. Monty Taylor. He she caller reported the collision had involved an SUV and a motorcycle.
“Emergency services attended locating the motorcycle and SUV in the ditch alongside the highway. The driver of the SUV, a 63 year old female Castlegar resident was uninjured, however the driver of the motorcycle (a 60 year old male and passenger, a 56 year old female) both sustained serious injuries,” Taylor said. “Travelling motorists were able to continue on the highway with alternating traffic while medical treatment was provided to the injured parties and police continued their investigation.”
The injured riders of the motorcycle, who are both expected to survive, were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
“Castlegar RCMP are continuing their investigation into the collision. Preliminary results identify the SUV and motorcycle were both travelling South on Hwy 22. The SUV had slowed down and proceeded to make a left hand turn from the highway. While the SUV was executing the left hand turn, the motorcycle in an attempt to avoid a collision with the turning SUV, veered into the oncoming lane of traffic striking the SUV on its’ driver’s side,” Taylor added.
