A 9-1-1 call Friday afternoon saw Castlegar RCMP responding to an assault, and the subsequent arrest of a 35-year-old Castlegar man, according to Cpl. Deb Postnikoff.

She said the caller indicated a man had just assaulted a family member and was engaged in destroying property in the 800 block of Columbia Road.

“(When police arrived) the suspect had fled in a vehicle, which was located about an hour after it was last seen at the (original) residence,” she said, adding the vehicle was found in an isolated patch of woods and contained three occupants.

“There was a struggle, we made an arrest, and one male was taken into custody, where he will remain pending his court date in mid-August,” she said, adding the suspect was known to police at the time of the incident.

She said another violent incident may have caused concern among element Night Club patrons on Sunday night when, just after 12:30 a.m., police responded to a call regarding an intoxicated male.

“He was quite verbal with police, and resisted arrest,” Postnikoff explained. “It take take a couple of members to finally arrest him.”

A 33-year-old Castlegar man was arrested and held in police custody until he sobered up, at which point he was released with a fine for causing a disturbance while intoxicated in a public place.
