On April 23, Trail and Castlegar Crime Reduction RCMP members arrested a 19-year-old male after he was caught shoplifting in Castlegar. (The man’s name is being withheld for the sake of his family members in the area).

RCMP Cpl. Mike Mysko said the young man in question has “numerous previous convictions”, so when he was seen hitchiking into town, police decided to keep him under observation

“He shoplifted several articles of clothing from a Castlegar business,” Mysko said. “The male … was a prolific offender throughout the Castlegar and Trail region.”

Mysko also said substance abuse was a factor in the criminal behaviour.

“The male was held in custody and was sentenced on April 26 to two months in jail with period of 18 months probation,” he concluded.
