Castlegar RCMP are investigating a home invasion/robbery/assault that occurred just after midnight on Aug. 6 at the Glade Esso station in Thrums on Highway 3a, according to RCMP Sgt Laurel Mathew.    “Suspects broke into the residence that is attached to the Esso station and accosted the 65-year-old male who was staying there,” she said, adding the victim was not known to the perpetrators, and was likley targeted because of the kidn of merchanidise in the gas station’s convenience store. “The man was assaulted quite seriously but has no life threatening injuries.  He was treated and released from hospital.  It is believed that there were at least 3 suspects committing this offence.”   Mathew said the suspects made off with a quantity of cigarettes and alcohol.   “A witness who heard the alarm sounding saw a dark-coloured, ’80s model Ford Explorer speeding away from the store. The vehicle was noted to be noticeably lower in the back end.”   RCMP are continuing to investigate.   Anyone with information is asked to call the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721
