Castlegar man charged with possession of child pornography and sexual interference
On Sept. 1, the Castlegar RCMP detachment received a complaint that a 24-year-old Castlegar male had taken photos of a 14-year-old female and sent them to her Facebook account.
The photos were discovered by family members, who then contacted police. Officers from the Castlegar detachment obtained and executed a search warrant at the home of the male, seized a computer and camera believed to contain these pictures.
Further investigation revealed the male and female had been involved in sexual relations in the past few months.
A search of the computer located an additional number of pictures of naked females, believed to be from the Castlegar area. Police will be attempting to identify these individuals to determine their age, whether the photos were taken with consent and whether sexual relations between the two occurred.
Additional charges will be pursued based on the evidence gathered.
The accused was arrested at his residence and appeared in court this afternoon, Sept. 2.
He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles).
The male was released to appear in court on Oct. 13. He will be under close supervision while awaiting his court appearances and will need to abide by a number of conditions including:
– a curfew;
– no contact with the victim(s);
– no contact with any female under the age of 18- unless permitted by his bail supervisor;
– not to possess any computer or other device capable of accessing the Internet.
The name of the accused is not being released at this time to help protect the identity of the victims.
