Update: Murder of 25-year-old Trail resident

Following a lengthy bail hearing on June 22 at the Nelson Courthouse, a youth suspect charged in the May 15 sudden death of a 25-year-old Trail resident was released from custody on bail with strict conditions.

The entire list of charges against the youth, whose name cannot be released, now includes: second degree murder, three possession and one possession of the purpose of trafficking (Controlled Drug and Substances Act) offences, and three prohibited weapon offences.

The conditions of his release include a house arrest condition during which the accused is required to present himself to police or probation officers at any time a check is done.

There are also ‘No Contact’ orders with 14 different people.

These conditions will be active for the remainder of the court proceedings.

The next court appearance regarding the drug related charges has been set for July 7, 2011 in Rossland, while the court appearance for the second degree murder charge is scheduled for August 11, also in Rossland.

Background

Shortly after 2 p.m. Trail and Greater District RCMP were called to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital after a 25-year-old male Trail resident was brought in with fatal injuries sustained in a physical altercation.

The victim was officially pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. RCMP conducted an extensive investigation and a 17-year-old male youth was arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection to the incident.
