Police have released the name of a Trail man who died after his car strayed into an oncoming lane on Highway 22 Thursday, colliding with an oncoming pickup truck.

The 44-yr-old male, Mark Perry, was in a 1997 red Honda when he crossed into an oncoming lane on Highway 22 between Fairview and China Creek around 5 p.m.  and collided with a 2009 Dodge pick-up.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the truck driver is in hospital in Trail with non-life-threatening injuries.

“At first glance, it appears as though one driver crossed the centre line and hit another car head-on,” said Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew. “The other driver has been taken to hospital.”

No one else was involved in the accident. Police closed the highway for four hours.   RCMP are now seeking more information on the crash. Witnesses of the incident are asked to contact 250-365-7721.
