Plane crashes into truck near BCIT

At approx 4:15 p.m. Richmond RCMP received a report of a plane crash near BCIT. 

A small passenger plane crashed on the northbound lanes of Russ Baker & struck a car containing two people. 

The plane burst into flames upon impact however Richmond Fire Rescue & YVR’s Emergency Response was on scene within moments to extinguish the flames.  Seven passengers were on board as well as two crew members. 

All parties were transported to hospitals for treatment.  The two members of the flight crew are in very critical condition while the others are in serious condition.

The Dinsmore Bridge is closed as well as the No 2 Road Bridge until further notice.  At this time it’s believed that traffic in the area will be affected until morning.  The Middle Arm Bridge is open as well as the Arthur Laing & Moray Bridge.   Burkeville residents will be allowed vehicle access as long as they can provide documentation that they are Burkeville residents.  Access will be through Sea Island Elementary off Templeton Street.   As of 9:45 p.m. Richmond RCMP has turned the scene over to the Transportation Safety Board & is now assisting them with the investigation.  A road closure update will be provided as soon as one is available.
