If the Kootenay Wildcats didn’t have any bad luck, the club would have no luck at all.

The Cats struggled once again around the net falling twice to league leading Fraser Valley Phantom in B.C. Female Midget Hockey League action this weekend in Nelson.

The Phantom scored twice in the opening frame en route to a 5-1 victory Saturday at the NDCC Arena.

Sunday, the Cats scored twice by that was not enough as Fraser Valley skated away with a 4-2 win.

The two losses drop Kootenay 2-10 and fourth-place in the league. Meanwhile, Fraser Valley continues to be the class of the five-team league as the club has yet to lose in 12 games.

Saturday, Fraser Valley scored twice on the power play to open a 2-0 margin after 20 minutes.

Mackenzie Wong then scored the first of two in the game in the second to increase the advantage to 3-0.

Shea Weighill of Nakusp cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the third. But Wong and Marsia Ricci scored to put the game away.

Sunday, Kootenay rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to score twice in the third.

Christina Bonacci of Trail and Weighill gave the Cats some life against the league’s best team.

However, Michelle Toor scored for the third time in the game with 3:12 remaining in the third period to lift the Phantom to the win.

Brittany Kimber added an insurance goal just over a minute later.

Morgan Flynn and Kayla Keraiff, both of Castlegar, shared the goaltending for Kootenay.

The Wildcats have a week to prepare for a three-game tourney weekend in the Fraser Valley.

Kootenay opens the set Saturday, December 17 against Vancouver Fusion. Later in the day the Cats meet Prince George Cougars before concluding the tourney Sunday against the Phantom.

The Okanagan Rockets, the other team in the league, are also playing in the mini-tourney weekend.
