Nelson police call arresting circumstances ‘bizarre’

Even police are describing an arrest in Nelson this afternoon as “bizarre”.

“On Monday afternoon, Nelson Police responded to a report from a woman of an intruder in her Fairview residence,” said Nelson Police Department’s Sgt. Howie Grant. “When officers arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old Nelson man sitting at a computer desk in the basement of the home and he was taken into custody without incident.

“In a bizarre twist, the suspect, prior to entering the residence, placed two dogs in the complainants van for an unknown reason. Then upon entering the premise he removed some of his clothing, including a large knife in a sheath, and put on those belonging to the husband of the complainant.

“The young man has been remanded in Nelson Police custody and will appear in the Castlegar Court House on Feb. 28, charged with break and enter, and possession of a weapon.”
