The B.C. government fired up the Keep Jumbo Wild supporters with its announcement last week approving the Jumbo Glacier Resort Master Development and setting in motion what promises to be one heck of a battle between environment movement and business.

The approval gives Glacier Resorts Ltd the go ahead to build North America’s only year-round glacier based resort.

Sunday evening outside Nelson City Hall local Keep Jumbo Wild supporters started a process they hope will stop any start of building any year-round resort.

“It’s time to stop the rape of this land,” Marilyn James of the Sinixt Nation.

James was one of many speakers to take to the podium to start the process of keeping Jumbo Wild led by K. Linda Kivi of the West Kootenay Coalition to Keep Jumbo Wild.

Others include Kim Kratky of the Kootenay Mountaineering Club, the Raging Grannies and other entertainers.
