Probable heart attack causes car crash on Columbia
A man’s death this morning resulted in a car accident on Columbia Avenue, according to Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Dan Pollock.
“At approximately 10:30 a.m. the Castlegar RCMP, along with the Castlegar Fire Department and BC Ambulance, responded to a medical emergency near the railway tracks at Columbia Avenue and 17 Street,” he said. “A 71-year-old man was driving when he had what is believed to be a heart attack.
“The vehicle veered off the road and came to rest near the railway tracks,” he added. “First responders and a bystander came to the driver’s aid and initiated CPR. The driver was taken to the Castlegar Community Health Centre but later died. The BC Coroner’s service is investigating and the crash is not believed to be associated with the drivers death.
“The deceased is not a local area resident and his name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.”
A female passenger in the SUV was uninjured. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
