Area H state of emergency lifted, Galena Trail re-opened
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has been busy with the wet spring weather.
However, a week of dryer conditions has allowed the RDCK to lift a local state of emergency and open a popular hiking trail.
Earlier this week, the RDCK lifted the local state of emergency for Area H — Slocan Valley West Road.
The rising of the Slocan River due to heavy rains forced officials to error on the side of caution and declare a local state of emergency on June 6.
However, the drop in water levels on the Slocan River have dropped significantly.
The dryer weather also allowed the RDCK to re-open the Galena Trail, Rosebery Three Forks trail.
A closure occurred May 10 to a portion of the trail within the vicinity of Capella Creek bridge due to a washout.
The repairs have been completed and the cable car is functioning.
