US skateboard sensation in Castlegar this Saturday

Never mind just learning to skateboard – how about learning to coach skateboarding?

Portland, Oregon’s Ben Wixon MA.ED, director of development-programming and instruction, Skaters for Public Skateparks, and executive director of Drop In to Skateboarding is coming to Castlegar Rotary Skatepark on July 7.

Wixon, co-developer of Drop In to Skateboarding (accredited skateboard instruction program) and Author of the book- Skateboarding: Instruction, Programming and Park Design is presenting a skateboarding workshop which will provide participants with:

  • progressive lesson plans and practical strategies to help you teach skateboarding safely and correctly;
  • guidance through the planning and design process, including an overview of the pros and cons of various skatepark styles and construction types;
  • information on key management issues such as supervision, staffing, scheduling, and maintenance; and
  • strategies for managing risk through appropriate skateboarding instruction, supervision, and park maintenance.

“Kootenay Family Places Summer at the Skatepark Program funded by BC gaming, Castlegar and District Recreation Complex, Columbia Basin Trust, Friends of the Castlegar Skatepark, Skull Skates, S-One Helmets and Skaters for Public Skatepark are key supporters of this unique workshop.” says Ty Smith, coordinator at the Castlegar Rotary Skatepark.
