Award-winning spoken word poet, Shane Koyczan, is embarking on a solo tour this fall.

For Koyczan, 2012 has already included a residency at Glenbow Museum in Calgary and the release of Remembrance Year with his band The Short Story Long.

The tour kicks off in Banff with a stop November 3 at the Element Club in Castlegar.

Since rising to international prominence after performing to over 55,000 people at Vancouver’s 2010 Olympics Opening Ceremonies, Koyczan has taken his dynamic show across the world, having recently earned five-star reviews from top critics at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“Conceptual fun and games are all very well, but they’re no substitute for mastery of the music of language, and in this Canadian performance poet Shane Koyczan is in a class of his own,” said Roger Cox of The Scotsman Review.

Koyczan was the first Canadian to win the prestigious U.S. Poetry Slam Championship and has headlined poetry festivals across Canada.

Koyczan continues to receive both literary and performance accolades around the world from the likes of the B.C. Interior Music Awards, the Canadian Spoken-word Olympics and CBC Radio.

Koyczan’s show is part of the one-night performance as part of the Scultpturewalk Awards Gala 2012.

Tickets are $25 for the entire evening and can be purchased at the Element or online at clubelement.ca.

Sculpturewalk Awards begin the evening at 7 p.m. followed by Shane Koyczan at 8 p.m.
