Team Whitewater/Red Mountain remains in hunt for Powder Magazine's 'Ski Town Throw Down' title

Just when the experts were beginning to write off Team Whitewater/Red Mountain, the West Kootenays rallied back.

Team Whitewater/Red Mountain is off to the next round in in Powder Magazine’s “Ski Town Throw Down” contest after edging out Whitefish, Montana 3492-3176 in two days of voting that ended Thursday.

Leading 2724 to 2566 late Thursday afternoon, locals rallied to dump more than 700 votes on the ballot to secure the win.

The contest is designed to find the best ski town in North America.

Ski areas were slotted into brackets similar to the NCAA Basketball March Madness tournament.

Team Whitewater/Red Mountain dusted off Sugerloaf from the East Coast of the USA 1309-1028 in the first round.

Team Whitewater/Red Mountain now advances to the next round against the winner of two Colorado hills, Crested Butte and Steamboat Springs.

That competition is slated for December 5-6.

The winner battles it out with Team Whitewater/Red Mountain December 12-13.

Team Whitewater/Red Mountain holds slim lead

Time is running out on voting for Team Whitewater/Red Mountain in Powder Magazine’s “Ski Town Throw Down” contest.

But never count the Whitewater/Red Mountain contingent out as the two mountains mount a last-day challenge.

As for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the West Kootenay mountains have pulled ahead of the snappy dressers from Whitefish, Montaina, in the Powder Magazine’s “Ski Town Throw Down” contest.

At last count Whitewater/Red Mountain was leading 2724 to 2566.

The two West Kootenay ski hills advanced to face Whitefish after polishing  Sugerloaf from the East Coast of the USA 1309-1028 in the first round.

The contest, with a similar format as the spring NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, is to find the best ski town in North America.
