UPDATED: Nelson/Rossland tops Powder Mag's 'Ski Town Throw Down' contest

And the winner is . . . Nelson/Rossland in the Powder Magazine Ski Town Throwdown contest.

The West Kootenay rep went from underdog to champion in the Powder Magazine sponsored contest to find the best ski town in North America.

Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) defeated Bozeman, Montana 11426 to 10572 in voting that ended Sunday.

The contest opened October 29.

Powder Magazine seeded ski towns across North America just like the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament.

Whitewater/Red Mountain opened the 32-town competition by dispatching Sugerloaf from the East Coast and then Whitefish, Montana in the second round.

Nelson/Rossland, winners of the Backscratcher Region, defeated Colorado’s Crested Butte 3576-3263 to advance to the Final Four before romping past sister mountain to the south (Schweitzer) Sandpoint by almost a two-to-one margin — 3711 to 1954 — in the semi finals.

Nelson/Red Mountain now gets a feature article in Powder Magazine.

With just hours remaining in the contest, Nelson/Rossland holds a 600-plus vote lead over Bozeman, Montana (Bridger Bowl) in Powder Magazine’s ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest.

Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) topped the 10,000 vote mark on Day five of the contest to find the best ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ in North America.

Voting ends at 9 p.m. PST.

UPDATED: Nelson/Rossland holds onto lead after Day two of ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest

Day two is in the bag and Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) has increased its lead — 400-plus votes — on Bozeman, Montana (Bridger Bowl) in Powder Magazine’s ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest.

Nelson/Rossland led 6165 to 5745 after 48 hours of voting.

The contest ends December 24.

Nelson/Rossland takes early lead in ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest

The momentum keeps building for the home side in the Powder Magazine in ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest.

After one day of voting, Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) has a slim lead — 250-plus votes — on Bozeman, Montana (Bridger Bowl).

Powder Magazine has extended the voting until December 24, meaning six days the public gets to cast their individual ballot.

And then there were two.

And guess who is one of the two — none other than Nelson/Rossland in the the Powder Magazine in ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ contest.

In one of the most widest margins of victory, the Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) contingent rocked their sister mountain to the south (Schweitzer) Sandpoint by almost a two-to-one margin.

The final tally was 3711 to 1954.

Nelson/Rossland now faces Bozeman, Montana, in the contest finale beginning Wednesday (December 19).

Bozeman nipped Fernie by the narrowest of margins — 4980 to 4783 — to claim the other side of the contest bracket.

The two day vote, concluding Thursday, will determine the best ‘Ski Town Throw Down’ in North America.

The contest opened October 29.
