Icing a winner has caught the eye of another recruit as the Selkirk Saints announced defenceman Ryan Procyshyn will join the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League team next season.

Procyshyn, from Surrey, is completing his final season of junior eligibility with the Delta Ice Hawks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

The 20-year old finished third in league scoring by defencemen with 30 points — and second in assists with 25 -— in 45 regular season games.

He was also selected to appear in the 2013 PJHL All-Star Game.

Over his three-year PJHL career, Procyshyn has scored nine goals and added 57 assists in 125 regular season games.

“Ryan is a smart, puck-moving defenceman who brings good size and excellent offensive instincts to our blueline,” said Saints head coach Jeff Dubois.

“He’s going to fit in very nicely with our style of play and I expect him to develop into a very good blueliner and a key player at the college level.”

Procyshyn is the third player to commit to Selkirk College, which recently clinched its first BCIHL title last weekend with a home-and-home split against Eastern Washington Eagles, from the Delta Icehawks in the past year, joining current Saints forwards Cody Fidgett and John Proctor.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to join the Saints,” said Procyshyn, who plans to enroll in the Business program.

“I’ve kept in contact with my former teammates who are playing at Selkirk and their excitement about the program and the college is infectious. I’m looking forward to helping the team in any role necessary and being a part of this positive environment while contributing to another successful season.”

Procyshyn is Selkirk’s second commitment for the 2013/14 season, joining fellow defenceman Stefan Gonzales.

The Saints will make another player announcement later this week.
