On Feb. 28, members of the Trail Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant issued

under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence located in Rivervale, just outside of Trail, according to RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr, the non-commissioned officer in charge of Trail and Castlegar Crime Reduction Units.

“One adult male, aged 19 years, was arrested at the residence without incident,” he said. “A search of the residence revealed approximately 100 grams of Marihuana bud along with a quantity of Psilocybin (magic mushrooms). Other evidence of drug trafficking was located and seized by attending members during the search of the residence.”

Orr said the comparatively small amount of drugs did not seem to indicate it was for personal use, given the other evidence collected.

“At the time of his arrest, the male was under a recognizance of bail stemming from a homicide which occurred in 2011,” Orr said. “The male is currently charged with Manslaughter as a result of this incident and cannot be named as he was 17 years of age at the time of this offence.”

He said the man has been charged with Trafficking a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

“Police have also recommended a charge of Breach of Recognizance against the male. The male has been held in custody and will next appear in court in April 2013 as a result of these new charges.

“This was a high priority investigation for the Crime Reduction Unit. The Trail and Castlegar Crime Reduction Units continue to focus on eradicating illegal drug activity within the Cities of Trail and Castlegar to ensure the safety of our communities. If you have any information on illegal drug activity please contact the RCMP or anonymously at Crime Stoppers.”
