Highway 3 closed for hours after truck flips
A fully loaded semi-trailer flipped on Highway 3 spilling its load of lumber and closing the road to all traffic for over three hours.
Shortly before 3:00 p.m. today the truck, swerving to miss a female dog crossing the highway with her puppies, flipped and landed on its side across the highway about 10 kilometers east of Greenwood.
Witness Bill Kitchen, a trucker based in Rock Creek, said he was on the scene just minutes after the accident. The driver, a lone male, was taken to hospital although his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Kitchen said.
Tractors and tow trucks were on the scene early but had to wait for RCMP traffic services officers to arrive from Castlegar to analyze the accident. As soon as they got the go ahead, the loader moved the lumber off the road and the trucks moved in to deal with the destroyed truck.
