Castlegar man facing cocaine charges

A 48-year-old Castlegar man is facing possession and trafficking charges after police executed a search warrant and seized two ounces of cocaine, according to CRU commander Cpl. Darryl Orr.

On April 25, members of the Castlegar Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant issued under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a local hotel in Castlegar,” he said. “One adult male aged 48 years was arrested at the hotel without incident. A search of the male’s hotel room revealed approximately 2 ounces of cocaine along with other evidence of trafficking.

“The male has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was later released on a Recognizance of Bail which includes several conditions, including curfew.”

Orr said the man is slated to appear in a Castlegar court this June.

“The Castlegar and Trail Crime Reduction Units continue to focus on eradicating illegal drug activity within the cities of Castlegar and Trail to ensure the public safety,” he concluded. “If you have any information on illegal drug activity please contact the RCMP or anonymously at Crime Stoppers.”
