POLICE: Busted grow op no 'Ma-and-Pa' enterprise
Earlier this morning, members of the Castlegar RCMP detachment, along members of the crime reduction unit, executed a search warrant for theft of electricity at a residence located on Columbia Road in Ootischenia, according to Cpl. Darryl Orr.
“Upon entry into the residence, a sophisticated three-room grow op was discovered containing approximately 400 marijuana plants,” Orr said. “During the search, members did locate the hydro-electric bypass, which has been removed, and power to the residence has been cut off for safety.
“One adult female was arrested, and other people are suspected of being involved,” he added. “The investigatiomn is ongoing.”
The woman is currently in custody facing charges of theft of electricity, possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
As for what made the grow op sophisticated, Orr said it was very clean, very tidy and very well-organized.
“A hydro-electric bypass is sophisticated – it takes some skill,” he said. “The amount of plants found within the residence is consistent with trafficking. this is no Ma-and-Pa operation – those days are over. This is an organized grow.
