Birthday celebration lands 37-year-old in NPD lockup

It’s never a happy ending to a birthday celebration when the Birthday Boy ends up in jail.
That’s exactly what happened to a 37-year-old man after alcohol took over the party Friday (May 10) at Finley’s Pub in Nelson.
Nelson City Police received a call late Friday of an intoxicated man fighting with patrons.
When officers arrived they found the man being held down by staff and customers. The man continued to struggle with police and was immediately taken to cells.
It appears during birthday celebrations, the man, having too much to drink, began harassing other patrons. When someone objected the man started a fight.
The man released when sober and charges of assault are being contemplated.
This man should have taken the advice of police
Earlier Friday (May 10) at 11:40 p.m. in Finley’s Pub, police were called to report a customer was refusing to leave as requested.
Members arrived to find out the male had left already, knowing staff had called police.
A few minutes later, while members were still in the area, the noticed the man returned and began to harass the door staff.
What he failed to notice was the police officer on the corner watching him.
The male was escorted away from the business and given an option to end his evening by going to his home or face arrest for public intoxication.
The male decided he was not willing to go home, or give any identification as required. He was lodged into cells until sober.
Man on probation answers charges in court Monday
A man on probation was back in court Monday facing charges of failing to adhere to conditions from a previous criminal offence.
At 12:30 a.m. Saturday (May 11), NPD dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call from a residence in Uphill of yelling in the area.
Members went to the address where an intoxicated male and a female were out back arguing with each other and yelling to an apparent third party to come back.
Nelson Police members discovered that the male that had fled prior to their arrival was known to them and bound by numerous conditions from previous criminal charges, including remaining in his residence at night and abstaining from liquor and street drugs.
He was found later when he called for an ambulance at a downtown pay phone.
The man was arrested and appeared in court in Nelson Monday to answer to the charges.
