POLICE BEAT: CRU report shows ecstasy conviction and cocaine bust
May saw Castlegar RCMP dealing with drug issues and compliance with court orders, according to a Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) report penned by Cpl. Darryl Orr (non-commissioned officer in charge of CRU in both Castlegar and Trail).
The first day of May brought a win for CRU, when a 21-year-old female was finally convicted of selling ecstasy to a CRU member back in 2011. She had an earlier court date, but failed to appear and a second warrant was issued, according to Orr. She was given a conditional sentence which CRU members are monitoring.
May 25 saw CRU members conduct a traffic stop, at just after midnight, of a vehicle suspected to be involved in cocaine trafficking.
“Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year-old male,” Orr said. “A search of the male and his vehicle yielded a quantity of cocaine, prepackaged for sale at the street level.
“The male’s vehicle was towed and (his) cell phone and cash were seized as offence-related property. The man was released on a Promise to Appear at Castlegar Provincial Court later this summer.”
Orr also outlined five cases in which CRU members are monitoring court-imposed conditions, ensuring convicted offenders are in compliance with court curfews and so forth, as well as monitoring the youth charged with arson in relation to the torching of St Rita’s Church and a Canadian Red Cross van (the adult involved has pleaded guilty and remains in custody awaiting sentencing).
