NPD kept busy with alcohol-related incidents

It’s obvious some drivers just don’t get the message after Nelson Police dealt with a pair of “Drink and Driving” incidents in the past few days.

In a span of two days the force arrested two drivers for drinking and driving as well as other charges and a woman for creating a disturbance in the downtown core due to too much alcohol.

The rash of incidents began in the early hours of Wednesday (July 17) when dispatchers received a call of a stolen vehicle in the Fairview area of Nelson.

After arriving on the scene of the 2:30 a.m. call, officers immediately located the stolen vehicle along with two male occupants who were attempting to flee the scene.

The vehicle was stopped and both occupants were arrested. 

The male driver, a 36-year-old Nakusp resident displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol and was returned to NPD Headquarters where he refused to provide a breath sample as directed. 

The driver is currently facing charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property, Impaired Driving, Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample, Driving while Disqualified and Driving While Prohibited and is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court in September, 2013. 

The passenger in the vehicle, a 34-year-old Nelson resident, faces a charge of Possession of Stolen Property.

Accident leads to charges of Impaired Driving

A 48-year-old Nelson resident is facing Impaired Driving charges after rear-ending a motor vehicle at early Thursday (July 18).

Officers responded to a call at 8:07 a.m. a motor vehicle accident at Government Rd and Highway 3A where a vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. 

The driver of the offending vehicle displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol and was subsequently detained and transported to NPD Headquarters where he provided breath samples over three times the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration (80 mgs). 

The driver currently faces charges of Impaired Driving and Drive with over .08 and is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court in September.

The driver also received a 90 day Administrative Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.

Too much alcohol lands female in NPD cells

NPD officers arrested an intoxicated woman during the late hours of Thursday (July 18) after the female caused a disturbance by yelling profanities and obscenities in the downtown area. 

The call came in at 11:06 p.m. Thursday of a person causing a scene in the downtown area.

Police arrived on scene and located the female in an intoxicated state. 

The woman then refused to cooperate with members at the scene and attempted to evade their presence. 

The female 45-year-old Nelson resident, then provided two false names when requested to reveal her identity. 

The woman was arrested for Obstructing a Police Officer and transported to NPD cells. 

She was later released and faces charges of Obstruct Police Officer and Causing a Disturbance in a Public Place. 

The female was also issued a Violation ticket for being Intoxicated in Public ($115 fine) and is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court in September.
