No one injured after explosion under car in Oliver

No one was injured after an Improvised Explosives Device exploded in residential area police thought happened Monday (August 12) in Oliver.
RCMP were advised of an incident involving an Improvised Explosives Device at approximately 10:40 .a.m.
However, police now believe the incident occurred early Sunday morning around 2 a.m., and not Monday.
RCMP said the device appears to have been placed under a vehicle which was unoccupied and parked behind a residence in the 600 block Earl Crescent.
A local area resident attended to the Oliver Detachment with a piece of metal that she had located in her garage.
This item appeared to have been projected through the alley side of her garage and traveled at sufficient velocity to penetrate the outside wall and end up inside the garage.
Investigators attended to the area and observed a vehicle in the rear driveway of a residence in the 600 block Earl Crescent. An inspection of the vehicle showed that it had sustained significant damage to the two rear wheels and the under carriage.
This vehicle has been secured for examination. Further investigation indicated that the cement driveway was scorched and appears to have sustained some surface damage consistent with an explosion. Pieces of metal, fragments of rubber and other material were also observed in the area.
There was damage to a second garage on the same side of the alley in the 600 block Earl Crescent. A piece of metal that entered this building did so with sufficient velocity so as to exit the other side.
“The damage appears to be consistent with an explosion of some significance going off under the vehicle” says Sgt Peter Thiessen, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.
“It does not appear that any local residents were injured in the explosion.”
“Investigators are working in close partnership with the BC RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit who will be attending the scene” says Thiessen.
The motive for this explosion and who may be responsible is not clear at this stage of the investigation.
