Crescent Valley residents were treated to a barrage of sirens last night as emergency responders answered two back-to-back calls at just after 9 p.m.

The first call came in at 9:09 p.m. and saw Tarrys Fire Department and Salmo RCMp responding to a motorcycle accident, according to Tarrys fire chief Greg Patterson.

“A motorcycle hit a deer in Krestova,” he said, adding a 41-year-old local man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Just minutes later, at 9:14 p.m., the RCMP and the Crescent Valley Fire Department were dispatched to a storage unit fire on Osachoff Road at West Kootenay Storage (right near the Playmore Junction), according to RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little.

“It looks like it was caused by new asphalt, and was quickly extinguished,” Little said.

The fire was comparatively small, and no one was injured.
