More than 500 people rallied together Sunday to once again make the 2013 West Kootenay Toy Run a successful venture.

The participants on approximately 425 motorcycles traveled the West Kootenay highways to raise money for communities throughout the region.

“We can continue to support communities the way we have done in the past after Sunday,” said spokesperson Geoff of the organizing committee.

The day started in Castlegar with the pancake breakfast hosted by the Lions Club before bikers began the tour.

First stop was Nelson before the Toy Run ventured off to Salmo for lunch hosted by the Fire Department.

After stops in Trail and Rossland the Toy Run rode back to Castlegar for dinner hosted by the Castlegar Special Olympics.

Other than the children that will benefit from all the toys donated by riders, the two most happy people were Trail residents Glen Gustafson and Danielle Gilbert.

Gustafson won the first prize in the raffle, a 2013 Harley Davidson Super Glide Custom while Gilbert took home the second prize, a Harley Davidson Sportster 48.

The money raised will be donated to communities to help food banks, women’s shelters, school scholarship and many other projects.
