Nelson Police deal with another suspected jumper at Big Orange Bridge

Quick actions by a Nelson Police officers may have saved a 26-year-old woman from serious injury during a potential suicide attempt Saturday at the Big Orange Bridge in Nelson.
This is the third time in the past few months Nelson Police have dealt with a possible jumper at the Big Orange Bridge.
The incident began when police dispatchers received a call Saturday (September 14) from Nelson Mental Health regarding a client leaving a Following a search by both Nelson Mental Health workers and police the client was located mid-span on the orange bridge.
An officer approached the suicidal female carefully, but the woman jumped over the railing.
Before the woman could complete the attempt the officer quickly grabbed her, saving her from falling into the water below.
Traffic had come to a complete standstill on the bridge at this time and five drivers came to the assistance officers and helped pull the female to safety.
The woman was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital under the Mental Health Act for assessment.
Nelson Police would like to identify the five drivers who came forth to assist in saving the life of the distraught female, in order to thank them for their much-appreciated assistance.

Youth responsible for damage at LVR ‘remorseful’
Nelson Police have located the three youths responsible for causing more than $5000 in damage to L.V. Rogers High School August 3.
All parties have attended the Nelson Police Department accompanied by their guardians and taken full accountability for their actions and have prepared letters of public apology for their actions.
“I cannot express how remorseful I am of this situation, and the shame I’m carrying with me,” one of the youth said.
“To all of those in our in our beautiful Nelson community, I am deeply sorry,” a youth responsible for damage.”
Sgt. Janet Scott-Pryke said the youths are first time offenders and as such the matter will be proceeding through Restorative Justice.
The Nelson Police would like to thank School District 8 and the staff at the school for their cooperation and partnership in this investigation.
Police on the lookout for vandalism to statue
Nelson Police looking for the person or persons responsible for damaging a statue on display in the 400 block Baker St.
The statue was of a musical instrument; a cello.
Police said the statue sustained major damage and had to be removed from Baker St.
Nelson Police is asking the public for assistance with regard to locating the suspects responsible for the damage to the artwork.
