Student very lucky after falling from fourth floor walkway at Selkirk College Tenth Street Campus residence
A student is very lucky not to have suffered serious injury after falling from the fourth floor walkway at the dorms to rocks below Saturday evening.
Nelson Police dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls at 8:20 p.m. from Selkirk College 10th Street Campus residence of a student needing ambulance assistance after a fall from the fourth floor walkway.
BC Ambulance, Nelson Fire Rescue and Nelson Police attended the scene and located the 22-year-old male.
The young man was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital for assessment by medical staff for injuries sustained and further transferred to the Trail Hospital overnight.
The student luckily was not seriously injured in the fall and is now recovering at Kootenay Lake Hospital.
Police respond to Vernon Street MVA
Emergency departments from B.C. Ambulance, Nelson Police and Nelson Fire Rescue were called to a motor vehicle accident in the 900 block of Vernon Street Sunday evening.
Dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls at 6:10 p.m. of a single vehicle accident.
The 46-year-old female driver, the lone occupant in the vehicle, was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.
Nelson Police are continuing their investigation with regard to possible alcohol involvement in the crash.
Two 19-year-olds arrested after witnesses saw vehicle driving on Selkirk College Silverking Campus lawn and sidewalks
Earlier Sunday, NPD received a call of a vehicle damaging grounds at Selkirk College Silverking Campus.
The call came in at 4:18 a.m. that a vehicle was tearing up the grass at the college.
A witness observed the vehicle driving on the sidewalks, on the grass and around the buildings.
Nelson Police located the vehicle and two 19-year-old males were arrested for Mischief Over $5000.
Both were held in custody until sober and released on a Promise to Appear with a court date and conditions not to attend Selkirk College.
The driver was also issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Representatives for Selkirk College were notified of the damage and they will be making an assessment as to the actual cost to repair the grounds.
Speed, alcohol blames for midnight accident
Alcohol is believed to be partly responsible for a 22-year-old man losing control and the vehicle he was driving striking a building at the corner of Stanley and Vernon Streets.
The accident happened around midnight Friday (September 20).
Police and Nelson Fire Rescue responded to a single MVA.
The driver of the vehicle had lost control while attempting a left turn onto Stanley Street from Vernon Street and had struck the building on the corner.
The driver was not injured in the crash but is being investigated for impaired driving and issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition,
The vehicle, no longer drivable, was impounded for 30 days.
