Nelson RCMP is asking for public assistance in finding the culprits responsible for vandalizing historic pictographs west of the Heritage City on the south shore of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake last week.

RCMP believed the vandalism happened sometime between June and September 25.

The vandals shot paint balls at some of these historic pictographs located on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake.

Pictographs, or rock paintings, were made to record significant events — a battle, a treaty, or even a long journey according to Parks Canada website “Forgotten Dreams”.

Kootenay Lake has been home to some of these pictographs, which many people have enjoyed and serve to document the Aboriginal Culture of the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nelson RCMP at 250-352-2156 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
