No accidents, but police concerned with drivers 'under the influence of alcohol or drugs' during weekend road blitz

RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Service and Integrated Road Safety Unit was out in full force, conducting spot checks during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.
The Thanksgiving holiday has been classified as one of the most dangerous weekends on roads in BC, where, on average, four people are killed and 540 injured in 1,770 crashes every year across the province.
“There were no serious collisions on the weekend but police have concerns with the drivers found under the influence of alcohol or drugs on the weekend,” said RCMP Sgt. Derrick Donvan, NCO West Kootenay Traffic Services.
Over the three days, police issued 88 violations for speed and aggressive driving, seven seat belts, four distracted driving (cell phones or texting) and several assorted traffic violations.
The unit also apprehended three Impaired drivers and issued four driving suspensions for three days for alcohol or 24 hours for drugs.
