Was there any doubt?

It appears Whitewater Ski Hill, going solo this time, has dispatched its first victim in the Powder Magazine 2014 Ski Town Throwdown contest.

With the final tally completed, Nelson’s Whitewater Ski Hill outlasted Big White near Kelowna 765-278.

Whitewater now advances to the second round of the 64-hill competition against Revelstoke November 11-12. Revelstoke defeated Cypress Mountain near Vancouver to open the competition.

Rossland’s Red Mountain, Whitewater’s co-winner in 2013, opens the contest October 23 against Kimberley.

After teaming up to capture the 2013 Powder Magazine Ski Town Throwdown contest Rossland’s Red Mountain and Whitewater in Nelson have been broken up to do battle in the 2014 contest which began Sunday with the first round.

Nelson/Rossland (Whitewater/Red Mountain) defeated Bozeman, Montana 11426 to 10572 to claim the top prize Skitown 2013 Throwdown.

Last year, Whitewater/Red Mountain combined forces to dispatch Sugerloaf from the East Coast and then Whitefish, Montana in the second round.

Nelson/Rossland, winners of the Backscratcher Region, defeated Colorado’s Crested Butte 3576-3263 to advance to the Final Four before romping past sister mountain to the south (Schweitzer) Sandpoint by almost a two-to-one margin — 3711 to 1954 — in the semi finals.
