Nelson Police has issued a warning to public about the latest scam circulating in the Heritage City.

NPD Sargent Janet Scott-Pryke said the detachment has received several calls regarding the latest phone scam.

“The caller is a young man who makes himself out to be a family member and states he has been involved in a motor vehicle accident and has been charged with impaired driving, and as such requires money to get out of jail,” Sgt. Scott-Pryke explains.

Nelson Police is asking the public to understand that this is a scam and no money should be forwarded.

“If you receive such a call, and are unsure, please verify the facts with other family members before considering the request,” Sgt. Scott-Pryke adds.

Runaway vehicle in Fairview

Nelson Police responded to a call of a runaway vehicle in the 700 Block of Seventh Street Tuesday (October 22).

The vehicle, parked in a driveway, appears to have rolled across the street, jumping the curb and rolling down a bank coming to rest against a house.

Damage was found to be minor for both the vehicle and the house, but a Provincial Inspection Notice was issued to the registered owner of the vehicle to ensure its future safety.
